A more than five-hour standoff with a domestic violence suspect at a home in Canyon Country ended Wednesday morning when the suspect was determined to have escaped.

Deputies responded about 9 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a domestic violence incident at a home in the 19100 block of Delight Street, near Whites Canyon Road, and quickly set up a containment zone, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station.

It was unclear if the suspect was armed.

“We received information that he possibly may have (a weapon), so deputies are taking necessary precautionary measures,” Sheriff’s spokeswoman Shirley Miller told the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.

Video from the location showed a woman, reported to be the suspect’s daughter, using a sheriff’s loudspeaker to try to get the man to surrender.

About 2:20 a.m., the sheriff’s department announced the containment had been lifted, the suspect’s family was okay and the suspect was outstanding.
