A traffic stop in Monterey Park led to the arrests of two men suspected in a string of commercial robberies in the San Gabriel Valley and Orange County, police said Monday.

Officers stopped a gray Mercedes-Benz four-door sedan for an unspecified vehicle code violation about 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 21 and recognized the driver and passenger, both 24, as suspects wanted in connection with the series of robberies, according to the Monterey Park Police Department.

“The officers also identified the vehicle … as the same vehicle used to commit the burglaries,” according to Monterey Park police Sgt. Paul Yniguez.

Damonta Gillen of Rancho Cucamonga and Donald Williams of Lynwood were both arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary, according to Yniguez, who said both men were on probation for traffic violations.

Williams also had several outstanding warrants, Yniguez said without elaborating.

Police did not release details about the dates and locations of the robberies the pair are accused of committing.
