A suspect involved in a domestic disturbance that sent one person to a hospital barricaded himself for about 3 1/2 hours Wednesday evening in a home in Norwalk before surrendering.
Deputies responded about 6:50 p.m. to the disturbance in the 14500 block of Carmenita Road, between Rosecrans Avenue and the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Firefighters were called to the location and took one person to a hospital, a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch supervisor said.
The sheriff’s Norwalk Station reported an armed felony suspect was barricaded at the location and advised residents to remain indoors until the suspect was taken into custody.
The “incident began as a domestic dispute,” station officials said.
Neighbors reported hearing what sounded like gunshots, according to a report from the scene.
About 9:30 p.m., the sheriff’s department reported the suspect was in custody.
“Thanks to our crisis negotiators, the suspect has surrendered peacefully,” according to a statement from the Norwalk Station.
