A man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of stabbing another man near an auto supply store, leaving him hospitalized in serious condition, police said.

The attack occurred about 1:45 p.m. in the parking lot of an Auto Zone store at 430 W. 17th St., said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

The victim, who was not immediately identified, was taken to an area hospital for treatment of multiple stab wounds, he said.

The suspect was found near the scene of the stabbing, with the knife still on him, and surrendered without incident, the corporal said. His name was not immediately released.

“He appeared to be under the influence or had mental health issues, or both,” Bertagna said.
