A charter elementary school in Santa Ana was locked down Friday as a parolee at-large ran from police and hid in a stranger’s home until a police dog found him and officers took the man into custody.

When police went to the parolee at-large’s home about 1 p.m. he jumped out of a third-story window and ran from officers, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

After running about two blocks, he ducked into a woman’s home at Walnut and Maple streets to hide, Bertagna said. That prompted a lockdown at Edward B. Cole Sr. Academy, Bertagna said.

“So, they got a dog, got everybody out of the house and searched the house, and he was hiding in the bathroom,” Bertagna said.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, appeared to be in his 20s, Bertagna said.

It was unclear why police initially sought the man.
