A 73-year-old man in South Los Angeles was killed in an apparent hit-and-run collision that involved two vehicles, the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.

The incident was reported at 5:17 p.m. Saturday at South Vermont Avenue and West 108th Street, according to the CHP’s Elizabeth Kravig.

The victim was walking westbound across Vermont Avenue, south of 107th Street, when he was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet. He was then struck by another vehicle while lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Kravig said.

Alcohol or drugs were suspected to be a factor in the crashes, the CHP said.

The CHP’s West Los Angeles office asked anyone who witnessed the crash to call them at 310-642-3939.
