A woman suspected of driving under the influence was seriously hurt early Sunday morning after flipping her car on a highway in San Diego, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 4:30 a.m. on southbound state Route 163 near SR 52, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The driver was apparently under the influence, failed to negotiate a turn and crashed off the roadway, the CHP told FOX5 News.

The driver was extricated from the wrecked car by firefighters and taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in serious condition, the station reported.
