A man who allegedly barricaded himself in a residential attic and threw fiery items at officers surrendered after a 10-hour standoff with West Covina police Friday.
Officers responded to the 1300 block of West Bainbridge Avenue at 12:10 a.m. about a disturbance and found an injured female outside, police said.
They attempted to contact the man inside the home — later identified as Nicholas Isidro Misquez, 48, of West Covina — but found he had barricaded himself in the attic.
Police say Misquez began pouring gasoline and throwing ignited items at officers.
The West Covina police Swat Team and West Covina Fire Department responded and chemical agents were deployed into the attic. Misquez climbed through a hole onto the roof and was taken into custody at 10:44 p.m.
The entire standoff lasted more than 10 and a half hours, police said.
Misquez is undergoing a mental health evaluation, and upon release, will be booked at the West Covina Police Department for attempted murder of a police officer, attempted arson, domestic violence with injuries and several outstanding warrants.
His bail will be set at $450,000, according to police.
