Authorities Thursday identified a man who was killed in a possible gang-related shooting in Compton that left another man wounded.
The shooting occurred just before 9:25 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Alondra Boulevard and Poinsettia Avenue, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Jonathan Beals, 29, of Compton had been shot in the head and died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
The other man had been shot in the chest and taken to a hospital, and was expected to survive, Navarro-Suarez reported. His name was not released.
No arrests were reported. The suspects were described only as two men in their 20s who fled the scene in a light-colored sedan. A motive for the shooting was unknown, but authorities said it might have been gang-related.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau 323-890-5500. Tipsters wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
