Dispatchers received a call around 9:30 a.m. from a person who reported that a man was armed with a gun near the intersection of 45th and Market streets, San Diego police Officer Tony Martinez said.
Officers responded to the scene and took one man into custody, but another man, also believed to be armed with a gun, fled the scene on foot, Martinez said.
Chollas-Mead Elementary was placed on lockdown as officers searched the area. As of 10:25 a.m., the school remained on lockdown and officers were still searching the area.
The suspect being sought was described as a 6-foot-tall black man, believed to be in his 20s, who was last seen wearing a black shirt and light blue pants, Martinez said.
