A 16-year-old sex trafficking victim was rescued by the Pomona Police Department, then turned over to the Los Angeles County Probation Department for an unrelated warrant, authorities announced Thursday.
Pomona Police Department’s Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking Team spotted the girl Wednesday evening in a patrol area known as the Holt Corridor, where the the department exerts special attention to deter prostitution and human trafficking, said Pomona police Sgt. Rick Aguilar and Officer Angela Torres. The exact location was not released.
The girl said she was forced to engage in sexual acts for money, and her exploiter often used threats and violence, according to Torres.
The team uses a victim-centered approach to juvenile victims of human trafficking and works to ensure victims have access to resources and services they need, Torres said.
