A 27-year-old Costa Mesa man died in a crash involving construction on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Huntington Beach, police said Friday.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was driving a 2012 Dodge south on the freeway about 10:30 p.m. Thursday when he continued through a closed portion of the high-occupancy vehicle lane south of Newland Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 54-year-old Anaheim man and a 46-year-old Corona man, who were construction workers, were taken to area hospitals to be treated for moderate to major injuries, the CHP said.

The crash shut down all of the southbound lanes through Friday morning.
