Authorities Wednesday identified a man and his teenage daughter who were killed when the car the girl was driving crashed on the eastbound Artesia (91) Freeway in the Bellflower area.
The crash occurred about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday near Downey Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Jose Herrera, 44, and Jasmine Herrera, 15, both of Carson, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the CHP.
The girl was driving a 1998 Mercedes with her father as a passenger, “when she steered the vehicle to the right and veered off the roadway,” CHP officials said.
“The Mercedes-Benz went airborne as it descended to the Downey Avenue onramp below,” the CHP reported. “The Mercedes-Benz struck the roadway and then came to rest on its left side against … (a) pickup truck, which was parked and unoccupied within a construction area.”
Neither occupant of the Mercedes was wearing a seatbelt, the CHP reported.
Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call CHP Investigator K. Phillips or CHP Officer M. Iniguez at 562-868-0503.
