A 70-year-old woman riding a bicycle was struck and killed Monday morning in a crash with a vehicle near Portola Parkway and State Route 261 in Irvine, according to the Orange County Fire Authority and Irvine police.

Linda Smythe was an Irvine resident, Deputy Supervising Orange County Coroner Erica Arellano said.

Smythe was hit by a gray Mercedes ML350, at about 10 a.m., and she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after, authorities said.

The Mercedes driver remained at the crash site and cooperated with police.

Portola Parkway was closed for several hours from Forge to the 261 toll road, police said. Portola Parkway was fully reopened by 4 p.m.
