Authorities Tuesday identified a motorist who was killed in a crash in the Westlake area after he allegedly fled the scene of a collision a short time earlier on the Hollywood (101) Freeway.

Paramedics sent to the 2600 block of West Temple Street at about 7:45 a.m. Friday took 27-year-old Jeremiah Bass to a hospital, where he died, according to the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Police said Bass had been involved in a crash with another vehicle on the freeway but fled the scene.

Bass’ Lexus had been involved in a crash with another motorist, who flagged down a sheriff’s deputy who was also on the freeway, KTLA5 reported.

The deputy spotted the Lexus and tried to stop the driver, who fled, LAPD Detective Juan Campos said. The deputy stayed with the hit-and-run victim, while the Lexus continued south on Benton Way in the Westlake District.

When the driver reached Temple Street, he hit a dip in the road, lost control and crashed into the front of another vehicle, Campos said. The Lexus rolled over and caught fire.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the Westlake crash was OK but complained of pain. Video from the scene showed the Lexus charred after the crash and fire.
