A 25-year-old man, who’s accused in a Banning stabbing attack that left the victim with injuries described as life-threatening, is expected to make his initial court appearance Wednesday.

Artem Day was arrested Saturday afternoon and booked at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on suspicion of attempted murder, with bail set at $1 million, according to the Banning Police Department.

Earlier Saturday, Banning police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 700 block of West King Street, where they found the victim, whose name or gender was not released, suffering from a stab wound to the neck.

Police rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victim to an area hospital.

Later that day, witnesses reported a suspicious-looking man matching the suspect’s description near West Hoffer Street in Banning, where Day was taken into custody.

A motive was not immediately disclosed, and an update on the victim’s condition was unavailable.

Day has no documented felony convictions in Riverside County.

Any witnesses to the stabbing were asked to call the Banning Police Department Detective Bureau at 951-922-3170.
