A three-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 in Eastvale left two people injured, one critically, and forced a partial closure of the freeway Monday afternoon.
The chain wreck happened about 2:10 p.m. on the northbound 15, just south of the Pomona (60) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. A sedan, van and compact pickup truck crashed in the middle of the five-lane corridor, near the transition to the 60.
One of the victims was trapped and severely injured, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Two engine crews and a truck company were sent to the location and extricated the trapped party within 30 minutes.
The patient was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, and another motorist was hospitalized with moderate injuries, according to reports from the scene.
Three northbound lanes were shut down while the wreckage was cleared and a preliminary investigation was conducted.
A SigAlert was issued at 2:40 p.m. and remained in effect as of 4 p.m. because of the crash, lane closures and slow traffic through the area.
