Felony child abuse charges have been filed against a father and his girlfriend, who are accused of tying his 6-year-old son to a bed in their Pasadena home on various occasions over a 2 1/2-month period.
Ivan Michael Arriaga, 36, and Claudia Georgina Hernandez, 46, were each charged Friday with one count of child abuse under circumstances likely to cause great bodily injury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The defendants were expected to be arraigned Monday morning, but the hearing was postponed to Aug. 26.
The two were arrested Wednesday and released on bond Sunday, according to online jail records.
Prosecutors allege that Arriaga and Hernandez used zip ties to restraint the boy, who had injuries to one of his ankles. They allegedly did so at various times between June 1 and Aug. 12 of this year.
If convicted as charged, the defendants each face up to six years in prison.
