Police said a 21-year-old Garden Grove man is in custody Saturday in connection with the shooting of a man who is expected to survive his wounds.
The suspect was identified as Antonio Garcia, according to Garden Grove Police Sgt. Charles Loffler of the department’s Gang Suppression Unit.
Officers dispatched at 10:10 a.m. Friday to 13202 Brookhurst St. found the victim, a 24-year-old resident of Anaheim, suffering from two gunshot wounds to the upper body, Loffler said. Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital, where he was listed in stable condition and is expected to survive.
“Through evidence located at the scene, officers were able to identify the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle,” he said. “The suspect’s residence was identified to being approximately one mile away.”
That home was evacuated and a SWAT team served a search warrant there, however Garcia was not located, he said.
Detectives later located his vehicle, unoccupied at an address in Santa Ana, near First and Euclid streets. Garcia was seen in the area, leaving in a different vehicle, he said.
“The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was taken into custody,” Loffler said. “A handgun similar to the one used in the shooting was found in the vehicle at the time of the stop.”
Garden Grove police detectives urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to call them at 714-741-5856.
