An SUV driver who police said committed a moving violation was arrested Thursday afternoon after leading authorities on a chase from Bell Gardens to Mission Hills but his passenger fled.
The chase started about 3:30 p.m. in Bell Gardens, when officers attempted to pull over a Chevrolet Tahoe for a moving violation, according to broadcast reports.
The suspects drove on the Hollywood (101) and the Golden State (5) freeways before exiting in the Mission Hills area.
The two suspects bailed out of the car shortly before 4 p.m. near San Fernando Mission Boulevard and Sharp Avenue, and the driver was quickly taken into custody.
The California Highway Patrol was searching for the second suspect, and a conclusive update was not immediately available, but the CHP’s Officer Elizabeth Kravig said she did not believe the suspect had been taken into custody as of 5:45 p.m.
Further details about the moving violation that sparked the chase was not immediately available from the Bell Gardens Police Department.
