A senior citizen was shot and killed Tuesday in a Bell home that reportedly belongs to a former Bell councilman, and a man believed to be her husband was detained for questioning.

The shooting was reported at 6:40 a.m. in the 4900 block of Weik Avenue, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez said.

The victim was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound to her upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene. A man believed to be her husband was detained for questioning, the sheriff’s department reported. Their names were not released.

The woman was between 75 and 80 years old, according to NBC4, which reported that the home belongs to former Bell Councilman Danny Harber, who served from 2011 to 2013.

Former Bell Councilwoman Violeta Alvarez told NBC4 that Harber lives in the home with his wife Donna, who she said has suffered from mental health issues including dementia.

Authorities could not immediately confirm the report.
