A person of interest was detained in connection with a crash in Westlake Village that left one boy dead and another hospitalized Wednesday morning in unknown condition.

Deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station responded to a crash in the area of Triunfo Canyon Road and Saddle Mountain Drive about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday and located two injured children, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

One boy was pronounced dead at the scene and another was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, the department said.

The investigation into the crash prompted the closure of Triunfo Canyon Road between Lindero Canyon Road and Twin Lakes Ridge until further notice, according to the department.

Video from the scene showed a scooter in the street and a helmet and roller blades on a sidewalk near the crash location.

The ages and names of the victims were not disclosed.

A person of interest was detained, the sheriff’s department said.

It was unclear if the crash was the result of a street race.
