Pomona police arrested a convicted felon who was allegedly in possession of a loaded, stolen firearm and learned he was out on bail after being arrested on similar charges, authorities said Monday.
Felipe Navarro, a 30 year-old Pomona resident, was arrested just before 11 p.m. Sunday at Colony Drive and Hamilton Boulevard, Pomona police Sgt. Mark Medellin said.
“Officers spotted a group of subjects walking in the middle of the street,” Medellin said. “One person in the group reacted to the police presence and threw a firearm over a nearby wall.”
The loaded and stolen firearm was recovered and Navarro was arrested, he said. Officers learned Navarro was a convicted felon out on bail while facing similar charges.
He was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm, a felon in possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded, stolen firearm, Medellin said.
Navarro is at the Pomona jail in lieu of $35,000 bail, according to sheriff’s inmate records.
