A Buena Park Police Department officer on a motorcycle was hospitalized Saturday morning with non-life-threatening injuries suffered when a suspect reportedly backed up into him on the westbound Artesia (91) Freeway in the Fullerton area, a police sergeant said Saturday.
The officer was on his way to work when he spotted a traffic infraction at about 6:25 p.m. Friday on the westbound freeway and decided to pull the suspect over, said Buena Park Police Sgt. Mario Escamilla. The nature of the infraction was not immediately known.
The motorist did pull over for a brief moment and then put his white 2015 Infinity in reverse to allegedly strike the patrol officer and his motorcycle, Escamilla said. An “officer-involved shooting” occurred and the suspect sped away westbound on the freeway, police said.
Officers responded shortly before 7 p.m. to a report of an officer down on the roadway, near the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The officer was taken to a hospital with stable vital signs and non-life threatening injuries, Escamilla said.
