A 30-year-old man was charged Wednesday with drugging and raping a teenager he was dating in La Habra.
Charles Joseph Lopez was charged with one count each of rape by use of drugs, rape, statutory rape, possession of an undetectable gun and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, all felonies. He also faces sentencing enhancement allegations of causing great bodily injury in a domestic disturbance and inflicting great bodily injury to the victim, according to court records.
The criminal complaint says the defendant was in a “dating relationship” with the victim, who was a minor 14 years or older.
La Habra police were called at 1:43 a.m. Tuesday to the 300 block of East Whittier Boulevard regarding a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, they spoke with Lopez and the teen before the defendant was booked on suspicion of firearm possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to police, who would not release further details.
Lopez’s arraignment Wednesday in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana was rescheduled for Jan. 29.
