Riverside police Friday asked for the public’s help identifying a motorist who fatally struck a 66-year-old bicyclist and fled the scene.
The deadly hit-and-run occurred about 6:30 a.m. on Jan. 7 near the intersection of Colorado Avenue and Jackson Street.
“The preliminary investigation revealed Lin Tae Kim of Riverside was riding south on Jackson in the bike lane for his morning exercise,” Riverside police Officer Ryan Railsback said. “As he entered southbound traffic lanes, a passing vehicle struck him.”
Railsback said the driver slowed for a moment, but then accelerated away from the location.
Witnesses called 911, and Kim was taken to Parkview Community Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Investigators have since determined that the suspect was at the wheel of a Mini Cooper, manufactured between 2002 and 2008.
“It should have the driver’s side window and mirror missing, along with several pieces of side trim,” Railsback said.
The color of the vehicle could not be confirmed.
Anyone with information was urged to call the police department’s Traffic Bureau at 951-826-8723, or RPDtips@RiversideCA.gov.
