A 24-year-old Santa Ana man, who was accused of raping an unconscious woman, pleaded guilty Friday to a misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to 28 days in jail.
Christian Aranda was also placed on one year of informal probation, according to court records.
As part of the plea deal, one felony count each of raping an unconscious victim and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime were dismissed, according to court records.
Aranda was an acquaintance of the woman and invited her over to his home about 1 a.m. on July 23, 2019, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. He said the two had not dated and were not romantically involved.
She fell asleep and eventually woke up to Aranda sexually assaulting her, Bertagna alleged. She told him she did not consent to sex and left right away and reported the alleged rape to authorities, he said.
Aranda subsequenrlt called her multiple times and even went to her workplace to try to pay her to get the case dropped, Bertagna alleged.
