A suspect was killed Friday afternoon in a shooting involving Riverside County sheriff’s deputies in La Quinta.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported the shooting on its Twitter page at 3:15 p.m. and said it happened in the area of Jefferson Avenue and Avenue 48. The suspect, whose name or other identifying information was not provided, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No deputies or members of the public were injured, according to sheriff’s officials, who did not immediately release any details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Jefferson Avenue was closed between Avenue 48 and Highway 111, and people were asked to avoid the area.
