Beverly Hills police and SWAT units engaged in a standoff Monday with a man who refused to leave a car he was suspected of stealing.
The man allegedly stole a vehicle in Beverly Hills which prompted police to pursue him, the Los Angeles Times reported. The pursuit ended at about 5 p.m. after the man crashed into another vehicle at Wilshire Boulevard and Doheny Drive.
The man remained in the vehicle and refused commands from police to exit. SWAT units arrived at the scene with at least one armored vehicle in an attempt to persuade the man into surrendering, according to The Times.
The standoff was ongoing more than two hours after the pursuit ended.
Traffic in the area of Wilshire Boulevard and Doheny Drive was impacted due to the standoff.
