Mothers and daughters argue, but this was one time the debate got out of hand as an adult daughter ready to leave her Yorba Linda residence and move in with her mother ended up almost killing her mom with a wine bottle blow to the head.
The 44-year-old Yorba Linda woman pleaded guilty Monday and was immediately sentenced to 11 years in prison for slamming a wine bottle over her mother’s head, leaving her battling for her life in a hospital.
The victim was helping her daughter Kathleen Marie Gallagher-Hilliard move out of her Yorba Linda apartment on Nov. 1 so she could move in with her mother when the two got into a dispute, said Orange County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Dennis Breckner.
Gallagher-Hilliard at some point felt her mother was threatening her life so she slammed a wine bottle over the victim’s head, sending the victim to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Breckner said.
Gallagher-Hilliard pleaded guilty to single felony counts each of attempted murder, inflicting injury on an elder adult and assault with a deadly weapon. She also admitted sentencing enhancements for causing great bodily injury on an elder as well as the personal use of a deadly weapon.
Gallagher-Hilliard was given credit for 179 days in custody.
It wasn’t immediately clear what the nature of the argument was about, nor what is the age of the mother.
