A 16-year-old Riverside boy whose motorcycle collided with an SUV was hospitalized in grave condition Wednesday, police reported.
The crash happened about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Spruce Street, according to Riverside Police Department Sgt. Ryan Taack.
The teen, whose name was withheld, was riding a 2004 Kawasaki northbound on Iowa when a 33-year-old woman at the wheel of a 2019 Toyota Highlander pulled out of a business parking lot onto the four-lane road, Taack said.
“The motorcycle struck the side of the Highlander,” he said.
The teenager was hurled onto the pavement, suffering major blunt force injuries, and was rushed to Riverside Community Hospital, according to the sergeant.
“Due to the extent of his injuries, he is not expected to survive,” Taack said.
The Toyota driver, whose name was not released, was questioned by officers at the scene but was not arrested, he said.
The intersection was partially shut down for several hours after the collision.
Taack said the investigation is ongoing.
