A 52-year-old man was fatally injured Monday in a head-on collision on the west end of Riverside when a motorist lost control of a car and drove into opposing traffic, according to police.
Cruz Carrasco of Anaheim was killed in the two-vehicle wreck shortly after 1 a.m. in the 4400 block of Tyler Street, near California Avenue.
According to Riverside police Sgt. Ryan Taack, moments before the crash, a 28-year-old Riverside man at the wheel of a 2008 Lexus sedan was going north on Tyler at an unknown speed when, for reasons still under investigation, he “lost control of the vehicle.”
Carrasco was headed south on Tyler in a 2011 Nissan Sentra and had no time to swerve as the Lexus jumped the center median and ended up in his path, Taack said.
Riverside Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The Lexus driver, whose name was not released, suffered major injuries and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment.
