A San Jacinto man accused of multiple acts of domestic violence while out on bail in a separate criminal matter was in custody Friday on $5 million bail.
Joel Lopez De Anda, 35, was arrested Thursday and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of spousal abuse and assault with a deadly weapon, among other charges.
Authorities began investigating De Anda around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, and were led to Lake Park Drive and Ramona Expressway, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The investigation centered around a pair of domestic violence incidents — one reported Saturday in Los Angeles, the other reported Thursday in San Jacinto, according to Sgt. Wade Lenton.
Deputies found a U.S. passport in De Anda’s car and learned that he allegedly claimed to a bail agent that he intended to flee the country, according to officials. He was arrested without incident.
Jail records show that De Anda was initially out on bail on June 10 for allegedly selling marijuana illegally.
He could appear in court as soon as Monday, jail records show.
