Two suspects in a series of Orange County burglaries were caught in the act of committing another one in Newport Beach and arrested following a short pursuit, authorities said Tuesday.
The suspects are believed to have burglarized several homes throughout south Orange County in cities including Laguna Hills, San Juan Capistrano and Rancho Santa Margarita, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s Directed Enforcement Team located the suspects Saturday during a burglary in the 1600 block of Antigua Way, sheriff’s officials said.
The suspects attempted to get away in a vehicle and crashed into a deputy’s patrol car during a short pursuit. They abandoned the vehicle and ran into a neighborhood where they were ultimately arrested, officials said.
Allegedly stolen jewelry and other items valued at more than $250,000 were found inside the suspects’ vehicle, the sheriff’s department said.
The suspects were booked into the Orange County Jail for burglary, grand theft, assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and conspiracy, sheriff’s officials said. Their names were not released because the investigation continued.
