The suspect in a shooting at the Redondo Beach Pier Wednesday evening was shot and killed by police.
Officers received numerous calls about a suspect shooting at people in the area of the Horseshoe Pier at the Redondo Beach Pier and responded at 8:25 p.m., said Redondo Beach Police Department Lt. Shawn Freeman.
The suspect was located and fled from officers toward a rock embankment near the beach’s waterline, where police shot and killed the suspect.
Officers found two victims with gunshot wounds in the area of the Horseshoe Pier. They were taken to a hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not known.
Reports from the scene showed pedestrians being evacuated from the pier, and occupants of restaurants and businesses in the area were advised to shelter in place as police investigated.
Per the policy of the Redondo Beach Police Department, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has been requested to be the primary investigating agency for the fatal shooting, Freeman said.
