A vehicle crashed into a building and overturned in Monterey Park Wednesday, leaving one man dead and a second person critically hurt.

The crash in the 100 block of South Atlantic Boulevard was reported at 12:09 a.m., according to Sgt. Peter Yung of the Monterey Park Police Department.

One person was taken from the vehicle in critical condition by Monterey Park firefighters and transported to a hospital.

A man was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The crash temporarily shut down Atlantic Boulevard between Garvey Avenue and Newmark Avenue. That stretch of the road was later reopened, according to police.

Police are still investigating the crash and searching for surveillance video that might show what happened, Yung said.
