An SUV struck a building Sunday evening in Van Nuys, killing a woman and injuring five other people.
The crash happened around 8:05 p.m. at 7600 Woodley Ave., at Saticoy Street, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart.
One victim died at the scene, Stewart said. The person’s name was withheld pending family notification. Paramedics were evaluating five others, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries. It was unclear if the driver was hurt.
The restaurant property was in use as a pop-up Halloween store and the victim was a woman believed between the ages of 25 and 30, according to ABC7.
The driver of the SUV was fleeing police from a street racing takeover a few miles away, ABC7 reported. He may have been known to police from a crash a year ago.
The genders and ages of the other victims were not immediately available.
LAFD’s Urban Search and Rescue team was evaluating the stability of the building, Stewart added.
