Two men were wounded Saturday during a shooting in Long Beach.

The shooting occurred just before 4:40 p.m. in the 500 block of East Pacific Coast Highway, according to Long Beach Police Department spokesman Richard Mejia.

Arriving officers found two men with gunshot wounds to their lower bodies that were not believed life-threatening, Mejia said. Paramedics took both victims to a hospital for treatment of their wounds.

“The preliminary investigation suggests an unknown number of male subjects had an altercation with another unknown number of male subjects,” he said.

“Officers located evidence, including strike marks, indicating a shooting had occurred and have also recovered a firearm,” Mejia said.

The suspects fled in a vehicle before officers arrived, he said. It was not known if the shooting was gang related.

Pacific Coast Highway was closed to traffic between Pasadena and Linden avenues for the police investigation, Mejia said.
