A 19-year-old man accused of stabbing and seriously wounding an acquaintance at his Norco home was charged Friday with attempted murder.
Ethan Robert Melnikoff of Riverside was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Jail on Wednesday for the alleged attack days earlier in the 1600 block of Valley View Avenue.
Along with attempted murder, Melnikoff is charged with sentence-enhancing great bodily injury and deadly weapon allegations.
He was being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Robert Presley Jail and was slated to make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Aaron Avila, about 3 a.m. Saturday, the defendant was involved in an unspecified dispute with the victim, whose identity was not released.
During the confrontation, Melnikoff allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the man multiple times, Avila said.
Deputies were called to the location minutes later and found the victim in critical condition. He was taken to a hospital for surgery and is expected to recover, according to the sergeant.
He said that the assailant had fled the scene, but over the ensuing three days, detectives confirmed that Melnikoff was the alleged perpetrator.
He was taken into custody without incident at a property on Edegewood Place in Riverside.
The defendant has no documented prior felony or misdemeanor convictions in Riverside County.
