A San Bernardino County man was fatally shot early Wednesday in Pomona.
Officers were sent at about 1:30 a.m to the 700 block of East Holt Avenue., near San Antonio Avenue, the Pomona Police Department reported.
“Upon arrival, a male adult was found suffering from a gunshot wound,” police said. “The victim was treated on scene by L.A. County Fire Department personnel and transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.”
Authorities withheld the name of the man, who was from Ontario, pending notification of his relatives.
Police said homicide detectives from the department’s Major Crimes Unit responded to take control of the investigation. No suspect information was available, and a motive for the shooting was not known, police said.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call police at 909-622-1241, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
The homicide was the first in Pomona since a fatal shooting on Sept. 30, Aly Mejia, a public information specialist with the Pomona Police Department, told City News Service. There were 20 homicides in Pomona in 2021, seven more than in 2020, Mejia said.
