The Los Angeles Police Department Tuesday evening identified a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a 24-year-old UCLA graduate student in the Hancock Park boutique furniture store where she worked.

Shawn Laval Smith is 6 feet, 3 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds and is 31 years old. He should be considered armed and dangerous. If seen people should not approach him and instead call 9-1-1, police said.

Smith is highly likely to be using public transportation. Special attention should be given to bus stops and train platforms, police said.

Smith has been in Pasadena, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Covina and several other locations around Southern California along with San Diego and San Francisco, police said.

Brianna Kupfer of Pacific Palisades was found dead inside Croft House in the 300 block of North La Brea Avenue at about 1:50 p.m. Thursday, the LAPD reported. She died at the scene.

Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Koretz asked city leaders earlier Tuesday to add $50,000 to the more than $200,000 from private donations raised for a reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the man who fatally stabbed Kupfer.
