“Ozark” topped the latest streaming ratings, with the previous week’s leader “Encanto” dropping to second despite increasing its viewership, according to figures released by Nielsen Thursday.
Viewers spent 2.904 billion minutes watching the 37 episodes of the crime thriller on Netflix from Jan. 17-23, including the first seven episodes of its fourth and final season that were released Jan. 21.
“Encanto” was second with 1.511 billion minutes watched, 5.1% more than the 1.488 billion minutes watched of the animated musical on Disney+ the previous week.
The Netflix horror series “Archive 81” joined “Ozark” among the three programs in the latest top 10 not in the previous week’s, finishing third with 1.035 billion minutes watched of its eight episodes in their first full week of release. Viewership was up 214.6% from the 329 million minutes watched the previous week when they were available for three days.
The release of the fourth episode of “The Book of Boba Fett” returned the Disney+ “Star Wars” space Western into the top 10 after a one-week absence, placing 10th with 580 million minutes watched, 24.2% more than the 467 million minutes watched the previous week.
“Eternals” was among the three programs dropping out of the top 10, dropping to 11th with 557 million minutes watched, 61.2% less than the 1.437 billion minutes the previous week, which would have put it second, but the Marvel superhero film that streams on Disney+ was not on the list released last week because of what Nielsen described as “an asset capture issue.”
The other programs dropping out of the top 10 were the fantasy drama “The Witcher” and the limited series “Stay Close,” which both stream on Netflix.
There were seven Netflix programs, two from Disney+ and one from Amazon Prime Video in the top 10. Nielsen also announces streaming viewership of Apple TV+ and Hulu programming.
The top 10 consisted of five original streaming series, two movies, two series that originally aired on CBS, and “CoComelon,” the 15-episode 3D animated series of videos of traditional nursery rhymes and original children’s songs that originated on YouTube.
The top 10 programs were “Ozark,” “Encanto,” “Archive 81,” “NCIS,” “CoComelon,” “Cobra Kai,” “Criminal Minds,” “Cheer,” “Hotel Transylvania: Transformania” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”
The figures reflect only television-set viewing, including such television-connected devices as Roku and Apple TV. Mobile-only viewing is not included in Nielsen’s streaming measurement systems.
