A fire was burning Friday in a two-story commercial building in the downtown Los Angeles area.
Firefighters were sent to the 600 block of South San Pedro Street at 6:41 a.m., said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
“This incident is now at the Major Emergency status with over 100 firefighters assigned,” Stewart said in a statement.
“Firefighters made access and were able to make good progress against fire on the first floor; however the fire extended up into the (second) floor to the attic,” Stewart said. “There is now heavy fire in the attic. Access to that area is proving challenging.”
No injuries have been reported.
