A man was shot to death at a baby shower in Hawthorne, and authorities were seeking his killer Tuesday.

Witnesses said the victim was arguing with another man late Monday in the 3900 block of W. 118th Street when the argument turned violent and the suspect shot him several times.

The suspect, described as a man in his early 20s, fled in an unknown direction.

Hawthorne Police Department officers were called to the scene at 11:50 p.m., where they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body, said Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
