Authorities Monday touted a $50,000 reward offer in hopes it will generate tips leading to the killer of a man who was gunned down in November 2020 in the downtown Los Angeles area.

Michael McGarry, 26, was shot Nov. 15, 2020, at about 7:35 p.m. at Enterprise and Mateo streets, and he died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

According to police, McGarry was working for a towing company and was assisting a stranded motorist when two suspects approached in an attempted robbery and one of them shot him in the neck. The gunman was described only as a male.

At a news conference Monday morning at LAPD headquarters, the slain man’s mother appealed for public help to solve the killing of her son, who was the father of a 5-year-old son.

“My son was a good man,” his mother said. “He was a good father, and a brother, and an uncle — an exceptional person with a big heart, who would do anything for anybody. … My family does want justice for Michael. He deserves it; nobody deserves to die this way.”

The reward was offered by the city of Los Angeles for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects responsible for the killing.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call LAPD Central Bureau Homicide Detective Hector Salas at 213-486-8700; 877-LAPD-247; or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
