Authorities Friday identified a 29-year-old man allegedly shot and killed in Compton by his stepfather.

Deputies from the Compton Sheriff’s Station were called at 8:05 p.m. Thursday to the 14900 block of South Clymar Avenue, where they found a man with gunshot wounds in the street in front of a home, said Deputy Miguel Meza of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Evan Stewart died at the scene, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported.

Homicide investigators learned that Stewart had been involved in an altercation at a residence believed to be his stepfather’s and his mother’s, Meza said. During the altercation, the stepfather allegedly shot the victim.

The 66-year-old stepfather surrendered to deputies upon their arrival and was cooperating with the investigation, the sheriff’s department reported. His name was not immediately released. The weapon used in the shooting was recovered at the scene.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
