A 46-year-old Beaumont man suspected of shooting a delivery driver as he sat inside his vehicle was out of custody Thursday on a $50,000 bond.

Jaime Lopez Bedolla was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning Monday on suspicion of firearm assault and shooting at an occupied vehicle.

Bedolla posted bail the following day and was released from jail.

According to the Beaumont Police Department, the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, was in the 1500 block of Leland Avenue Monday afternoon when he delivered unspecified items to a house.

“The victim left the area after being confronted by the homeowner … (who) followed the victim and shot him through the door of his vehicle,” according to a BPD statement.

The alleged shooting happened where the victim had parked in the area of Highland Springs Avenue and First Street, police said. The victim immediately drove himself to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Soon afterward, the attack was reported to officers, who initiated an investigation that culminated in the arrest of the suspect.

“At this time, it is unknown what the relationship is between the homeowner and the victim,” BPD stated.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department Detective Bureau at 951-769-8500.
