An inmate died from unspecified causes in her cell at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, authorities said Friday.
The detainee, identified only as a woman, was discovered unconscious in her cell at the downtown jail about 8:35 p.m. Thursday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The agency said that correctional staff initiated resuscitative measures until county fire paramedics reached the location and took over. However, the inmate was pronounced dead at 9:12 p.m., sheriff’s officials said.
An autopsy was pending Friday. A sheriff’s spokeswoman said there were no indications of “foul play.”
The reasons for the inmate’s detention were not disclosed.
The investigation was being handled by the department.
