The U.S. Coast Guard Sunday evening suspended the search in the ocean off Corona del Mar for a 48-year-old swimmer who did not return when he was expected.

Coast Guard “assets searched for 27 hours, conducting 12 search patterns spanning 152 square miles,” the agency tweeted about 9 p.m. Sunday.

The Coast Guard did not release the man’s name. He was reportedly due to meet up with a friend at 4 p.m. Saturday but did not show up.

He was last seen wearing blue biker shorts, Coast Guard officials say.

The search includes a crew from Long Beach, a U.S. Coast Guard ship and a helicopter from Point Mugu.

Anyone with information on the man’s whereabouts was asked to call 310- 521-3801.
