A man with a machete was shot and killed by sheriff’s deputies Wednesday in the Florence-Firestone area, authorities said.
The shooting was reported at about 6:55 a.m. near 92nd Street and Graham Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies went to the location on a report of a man with a knife, and found a man armed with a machete, the sheriff’s department reported.
“The male adult suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene,” a sheriff’s department statement said.
The man’s name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives. No deputies were injured.
Rail service along the Metro A Line — formerly called the Blue Line — was interrupted between the Florence Station and the 103rd Street/Watts Towers Station while an investigation was conducted, and buses were requested to accommodate passengers.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
